A little about me:
I started my career in the manufacturing industry, making a wide variety bespoke machines for power generation. My big interest was changing the approach to apply lean flow techniques for improvement in productivity, quality, and cost reduction. It was a natural progression then, when I moved to the buildings and infrastructure industry (specifically airport portfolios) to lead the initiative for manufacturing buildings in factories and assembling them on site. The aspect that was always missing though was the ability to access the right information at the right time which would make innovative construction just normal. So that is why I chose to join buildingSMART.
What I like doing best is exploring outside, or when I'm busy making something. My children are young adults now, but they still come along on surfing, sailing, mountain adventures and bring with them the banter and silly games. Although this time of year isn't the best for doing expeditions, it is certainly the time for planning them and I'm already looking forward to getting out and about in the spring.
Richard recently visited buildingSMART colleagues in China and Hong Kong SAR. Read his blog write-up here:

Geo Digital Twin and openBIM for the digitalisation of infrastructure assets and extensive estates of public administrations and private managers: the success story of Modello Unico Infrastruttura Ferroviaria (MUIF) in RFI
The AECO market increasingly requires digital systems for the management of complex assets oriented towards BIM and GIS integration and based on open standards, to guarantee the construction and management of the information system over time, data ownership, and security.
During this webinar, buildingSMART International will present technology trends and standardization strategies for creating Geo Digital Twins.
We will continue by delving into how the market solutions offered by ACCA software and Esri enable integrated management between the openBIM world and the GIS world, examining the functionality and use cases linked to management via the Geo Digital Twin.
Finally, a success story will be presented regarding the application of these paradigms in the Transportation sector, Railway area: RFI (Rete Ferroviaria Italiana) will illustrate the implementation strategy applied to the MUIF (Single Railway Infrastructure Model) and the results of the analysis and experiments conducted.
The webinar is on Thursday 25th January at 2 p.m. CET.
Iceland Joins buildingSMART International as a Chapter-in-Formation
buildingSMART International (bSI) is pleased to announce that Iceland has been formally approved as a "Chapter-in-formation". It will begin work to move to the "Developing Chapter" status over the coming months.
The approval follows a successful submission, and the new Chapter will be established under the BIM Iceland group to further advance openBIM in Iceland. With a growing BIM community and more demands for open standards, the Chapter aims to drive the need for IFC and related services into their market.
buildingSMART International is delighted to announce the "Documents API" standard has been approved as a final standard. This important development expands the group of services being developed to support documents, data exchange and the openCDE initiative.
