Fire Safety Engineering - Call for Project Sponsorship
While BIM has become the standard platform for integrated digital design, the lack of fire safety engineering data standards and tools is having negative effects.
The purpose of this project is to incorporate fire and life safety definitions into the IFC standards to maintain design & analysis data at all stages in an open, connected, digital workflow….where 3D models, calculations, and reviews can be integrated into the “golden thread”.
Use the link below to learn more or to enquire about joining the project / providing project sponsorship.
The IfcSpatialZone ENTITY was introduced in the IFC4 schema for representing the flexible spatial object in the Building Information Model. The traditional IfcSpace ENTITY is defined as representing physically and logically partitioned space. On the other hand, a spatial zone is a non-hierarchical and potentially overlapping decomposition of the project under some functional consideration.
A spatial zone might represent a thermal zone, a construction zone, a lighting zone, or a usable area zone. A spatial zone might have its independent placement and shape representation.
With this survey, the intention is to verify which/what would be the characteristics that would make this Entity more useful.
The Airport Entities project team has produced a survey on Baggage Handling Systems. The survey aims to verify the proposed mapping of airport-specific objects to IFC entities and check its completeness.
Are you an expert in Baggage Handling System and BIM? Then take the survey now!
The Regulatory Room strategy is to engage actors of the regulatory process to support the adoption of openBIM to improve the whole process. To achieve this goal buildingSMART (and we think the global building ecosystem) is tremendously interested in regulated firms and regulatory bodies expectations.
Unsurprisingly, expectations are not the same everywhere, and change over time, so in 2020 we decided to launch a survey to fix a point and discover and analyse a general perception about openBIM adoption in the compliance processes, collecting the points of view of both regulators and regulated industry.
The final goal of the assessment was to find the best messages and communications channels to improve the engagement needed to foster openBIM adoption in regulatory processes.
The Infrastructure Room Steering Committee, led by Tiina Perttula, communicated progress at the bSI Virtual Summit from 28th March 2022:
InfraRoom Roadmap workshop – The bSI German Chapter and the bSI Finland Chapter have both facilitated Roadmap Workshops to gain valuable feedback from the wider community. There are further workshops planned in Italy, UK & Ireland and Australasia.
IRSC aim to conclude consultation with our community and update the IRSC Roadmap with a view to presenting it at the next bSI Summit.
IFC 4.3 is published as a bSI Production Standard. The Infrastructure and Railway Rooms have now concluded their projects to extend IFC for Infrastructure entities. The standard has been submitted and presented to the ISO JWG 12. It is anticipated that the ISO process, to issue the next release of ISO 16739, will conclude in early 2023.
bS USA Webinar: Best Practices with Digital Layout
on Projects Big and Small
In this webinar, join presenter John Tocci Jr who serves as PCL Construction’s VDC Manager, lending his technical and VDC expertise to projects spanning the firm’s Southern California Buildings District.
Installing work accurately is an obvious, but challenging step in any digital project execution. This presentation will review practical workflows in the design model, trade/fabrication modeling, and layout/execution process.
NEXT-generation CDEs to advance the sustainability of the construction industry?
This roundtable featured speakers from buildingSMART International, BSI Group, Oracle Construction and Engineering, Tractebel Engie, and VAMED. The panel of experts discussed the future today:
What works today and what are the challenges? Which values can NEXT-generation CDEs deliver? How do intelligent platforms make clients and users more efficient? How do standards and certifications create more trust and increase productivity? Will CDEs support sustainability requirements?
