buildingSMART Alliance and buildingSMART Korea exchanged MOU

The NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF BUILDING SCIENCES, of Washington, D.C., United States of America, a District of Columbia nonprofit corporation, on behalf of its unincorporated council, the buildingSMART Alliance, and buildingSMART KOREA, of the Republic of Korea,(?the Parties?), exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in Paris at the buildingSMART International Meeting on 14th May 2009.

The MOU is intended to outline the sharing of various products that each organization has developed. At the heart of the agreement is the Building Information Modeling standard. The first version, which outlines basic procedure and approach is based on International Standards, was prepared by the United States. Korea is planning to use that document as a base for their countries BIM standard. Additional development accomplished by Korea will then be shared by the United States in improving their document. It is hoped that this joint effort will improve both documents, speed the process of standards development, and support a worldwide approach to building information modeling. The other primary area of sharing will be articles that will appear in ?The BIM?, the Korean buildingSMART magazine www.buildingsmart.or.kr and the Journal of Building Information Modeling (JBIM) www.buildingsmartalliance.org. Both can be downloaded from the web sites or received in hard copy by registering on the web sites.
